I am not your shadow.
I don't want to live in want of light
or lack of it.
I'm tired of following you around
your merry-go-round sister,
listless and idle.
I am not you.
Or the absence of you.
Stop trying to find me there,
In the air and whisper under
moss and crawling creature,
I am not to be stepped on.
You were always worshiped,
I know. You may not.
Don't tell me where to go or who I can be,
Don't tell me my waist is too thick
or my arms too long,
I always thought you were my friend.
Too late, you were just
standing in the way of the sun,
Your shadow
blocking my light.
